We work hard to help the community and could sure use your support!
Our needs are various and ongoing, but mostly revolve around bike parts and tools to help in our repair and restoration work. We also offer snacks, warm cups of cocoa, or cold lemonade while our clients wait when they’re available, so refreshments are welcome as well!
Donated bicycles and bike parts are a huge help, and keep us in business restoring and distributing no-cost bikes to Puebloans in need. We make sure every bike that goes out our door is safe, serviceable, and one that our recipients can be glad to ride and keep. Your used bikes of all kinds can help, but please read this before donating:
Preferred: late 80s, 90s, 2000s aluminum or steel mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, step-throughs, and cruiser bikes with 26″ or 700c wheels, in generally serviceable condition. Bad tires, bad chains, bad shifting, bad grips, bad wheels, bad seats or missing components are all A-OK! We can work with those. Tricycles are also very welcome as we sometimes have recipients with mobility needs, and bike trailers are a real treat!
We don’t mean to be too picky, but have to prioritize volunteer time, and some bikes are just too far gone or too much work or too hard to source parts for, so we ask that you consider another way of finding use for the kinds of bikes listed below:
Less preferred: road bikes with narrow wheels/tires, bikes with minor corrosion/rust, kids bikes, bikes with 24″ or smaller wheels, BMX bikes, bikes that have been stored outside for long periods, bikes with extremely modern components (thru-axles, hydraulic disc brakes, carbon frames/wheels, 11 or 12sp drivetrains, electronic shifting, eBikes, etc).
We cannot use: bikes with damaged/bent frames, bikes older than ~1985, bikes with uncommon wheel sizes (650c, 27×1 1/4, etc), bikes with significant corrosion, tandems, non-working eBikes, or anything you have to really think twice about donating vs scrapping.
Components of all kinds in working condition are also appreciated as they help us get good frames back into circulation in the community. Of frequent need are the following:
- Seats/saddles (no rips, tears, tape, or exposed inner material)
- Grips
- Tires and inner tubes (esp 26″, 24″ 700c/29″, 20″, 27.5″)
- Shifters
- Brake levers (flat-bar style only)
- On-bike racks, baskets, and bags
- Portable pumps and bike tools
- Bike trailers for kids/dogs/cargo
- Derailleurs and cassettes (6-10sp will all find a good home!)
- Chains
- Handlebars
- Wheels/wheelsets
- Brake calipers and pads
Additionally, bike-specific shop handtools are always helpful! General-use tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc) are not needed as we have plenty of those, but if it says Park, Pedro’s, Blackburn, etc. on it, we can probably use it!
